Patriot Day. September 11^thwill always be a day of remembrance of the victims of 9/11 and the day our country witnessed the greatest act of terrorism on U.S. soil. Two years ago on the eve of 9/11/09 President Obama declared this day as “Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.” He said, “Our democracy is strengthened when we uphold the freedoms upon which our Nation was built: equality, justice, liberty, and democracy. These values exemplify the patriotism and sacrifice we commemorate today.” May we remember the victims and the Armed Forces who gave their lives in defending our country and liberty.

Local Podiatrist gives back-

In response to a call for volunteers and a need specifically for Podiatrists, on the days following September 11, 2001, Dr. Hal Ornstein from the state of New York cared for and treated the feet of many rescue workers and volunteers. He explained to a local news writer that, "It was easy to treat their feet" mentioning all the supporting hands that were there to help, then he added a little more subdued, "It was really more important to talk to them and give them those mental hugs."

Dr. Ornstein has become a class favorite, as an adjunct professor, among my colleagues on campus and is well known in the profession as a charitable, selfless person.

As a 3rd year Podiatry Student I have been exposed to many aspects of the human body both anatomically and physiologically. I understand the importance to good health and balance in life especially when it comes to our feet. This BLOG will provide current and relevant information and news as it applies to the Podiatric profession.

About me: I am currently a 3^rdyear Podiatry student at Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and preparing for clerkships. I am the father of two; a 2 year old energetic little boy named Gavin and a little girl waiting in the wings and due any day now (no name yet). My wife, the daughter of Dr. Merrill, and I attended BYU-IDAHO for 4 years where she was awarded a Bachelors degree in Health science and I studied Biology with a Chemistry Minor preparing for Podiatry School. We love Ohio and haven't missed a chance to go camping, be outdoors and enjoy the beauty of the mid-west.
