School is out and the warm weather is here! The first couple weeks of summer are usually packed with lots of fun and excitement for the kids, and then the words, “I’m bored” seem to come out. If you find yourself with kids who seem to be “bored” all day, check out this list for some great ideas to help your kids stay busy, active and away from the t.v. and electronic devices.
Hiking: Hiking is a great way to get in a little exercise and burn off some energy. Get up early before it gets too hot, pack some snacks, and head to your favorite hiking spot. The kids will love exploring and getting outside.
Geocaching: Who doesn’t love a treasure hunt? Geocaching is a fun way to explore new places in your city and take your kids on an adventure. Check out the Geocaching website to learn more.
Bike Riding: Whether your kids are small or big you can go for a bike ride. Think about investing in a bike trailer if you have little ones so that you can go further, or if your kids are older everyone can ride along! Most park systems have some sort of bike trail that you can ride.
Have a picnic: Kids love to eat outside, even if it’s just in your own backyard! Set up a picnic for the kids outside and give them some books to look at. Switching up the regular routine is sometimes all it takes to get your kids out of the “bored” cycle.
Craft Box: Put together a craft box filled with feathers, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, stickers, construction paper, glue and whatever else your kids like to use to create. Let your kids use their imaginations and have fun!
Outdoor Toys: Bubbles, chalk, and sand are a kids best friend. Have fun activities that your kids can do outside, instead of just telling them to “go outside and play”.
Remember that sometimes switching things up from the normal routine is all it takes to get your kids excited and out of their summer boredom. Staying active is so important to your kids health.
