If you are from the Southern Oregon area, it is highly likely that you or someone you know has participated in the Pear Blossom run, gone to the parade, or taken part in some way in the Pear Blossom Festival. The Pear Blossom is held every year in April and is host to many different activities including food vendors, a parade, and of course the Pear Blossom run.
A few fun facts about the run:
- It includes a one mile, a two mile, a 5K, and a 10 mile run.
- The first pear blossom run was in 1977 starting out small, and growing to more than 3,000 runners every year.
- 1982 was the first year it rained during the run.
- In 2011 the 5K was given a new name: Rogue Valley Medical Center Heart and Sole 5K.
One of the most interesting facts is about our very own Dr. Merrill! He has run the 10 mile run for the past three years, will be running his fourth 10 mile Pear Blossom run on April 12th, and was the originator and founder for the first free health screening held at the Medford YMCA on March 22nd. As a sponsor for the Pear Blossom run he was recently interviewed by the Mail Tribune, Channel 12 KDRV news, and Channel 5 KOBI news. You can see the article from the Mail Tribune here which talks about the health screening that brought in more than 100 people.
Being a big runner, Dr. Merrill knows the pains that may come along with running. Make sure to give the office of Dr. Evan Merrill a call if you are suffering from any foot pain.
